But his mother and brother have tried to tell him that if he's gay -- he must not believe in God, he must be a reprobate and must be such a deviant that his brother told him that he will never give him a moment's rest and peace about this issue.

My friend is earnest, a patriot, sober, sane -- and he's being betrayed in America by a lack of the kind of tolerance and modernity that our society is supposed to be about. Iran and any place under the control of the Taliban hang, stone, or castrate gay youth. Egypt imprisons them. In middle America, the intolerant who somehow have decided to channel a vindictive, judgmental, and sin-obsessed Christ harass, disown -- and in the case of young Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming or active duty sailor Allen Schindler -- kill them.

I hate to hold Dick Cheney and his wife out as models, but I'm absolutely going to in this case. Cheney is convinced of how right he is in matters of war and state -- but when it came to family, Cheney and his wife evolved. I know that he does not harass his daughter Mary. He accepts her, her partner, and his grandchild.

This is my personal message to my friend's mother and brother. Your son has options. He has friends and a family he can surround himself with until the end of his days as he is a prince of a person whether you see it through your judgmental eyes or not.

I'm sure when Lynn Cheney was not yet ready to broadcast discussion about her daughter being a lesbian -- she was privately tormented. The fact that her daughter. . .that's right. . .the Vice President of the United States' daughter is homosexual -- took time to accept. But they did it. They remained a family, and I credit them for privately demonstrating tolerance in a way that should influence the most theocratic corners of the nation. I have friends that argue that Mary Cheney hasn't done enough -- but she and her family are one -- and that's enough in my view. And it should be in the case of my friend's family.

Your views about your brother and son can't even be called Medieval -- because as we have recently learned, Medieval knights, lords, and nobility committed themselves to each other in property and love in much the way that civil unions are emerging today.

You think your brother and son "chose" a lifestyle that he has tried not to accept for years -- to the point of considering ending his life.

He made no choice. But you are.

You are choosing to reject him and who he decides to be. If Cheney accepts his daughter and her partner, you should think about why you refuse to do the same. Why aren't you able to join our modern world? Theocracy -- when it harms rather then helps -- is no better here than it is over there.

Merry Christmas, and if you get a chance during your lives to visit the site where Matthew Shepherd was brutally killed, I want you to think real hard about who is saved and who is not.

By the way, I forgive you -- but your son is going to live a good life whether or not you accept him for the great man he is.

‘I Don’t Know’ If People Are ‘Born’ Gay, But It’s A ‘Choice’ To Act Gay

On NBC’s Meet The Press this morning, host Tim Russert asked former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee if he believed “people are born gay or choose to be gay?” “I don’t know whether people are born that way,” responded Huckabee, “but one thing I know, that the behavior one practices is a choice.”

Huckabee conceded that “people who are gay say that they’re born that way,” but added that he believed that “how we behave and how we carry out that behavior” is more important. Watch it:

As ThinkProgress has noted before, Huckabee has a record of using the power of government to discriminate against the choices that gay Americans make in their private lives. As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee pushed to strengthen the state’s anti-sodomy laws in order to “protect the traditional family structure”:

In 1997, Huckabee requested an amendment to a state Senate bill stating “that it is Arkansas public policy to prohibit sodomy to protect the traditional family structure.” [Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 1/23/1997]

Huckabee is also fervent in his efforts to deny gay men and women the right to choose to marry the ones they love. Recently, he told GQ that “civilization” may not survive if “what marriage and family means” is “rewritten” to allow gay marriage.

Russert also pressed Huckabee on his comparison of homosexuality to necrophilia, which he described as “publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations.” Huckabee claimed that he was not saying they were “equivalent,” but was only “pointing out” that they “are deviations from what has been the traditional concept of sexual behavior.”

MOUNT AIRY, Maryland (CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush on Friday stressed the role of faith-based groups in the fight against AIDS, calling the struggle one of conscience and morals on the eve of World AIDS Day. Bush was speaking at Calvary United Methodist Church in Maryland after meeting with representatives of religious and community groups.

"Faith-based groups like these are the foot soldiers in the armies of compassion," he said. "They are helping to defeat this epidemic one soul at a time."

More than 33 million people worldwide have HIV -- the virus that can lead to AIDS -- according to the United Nations. That includes 2.5 million children younger than 15. More than 2 million people have died of AIDS this year -- including 330,000 children.

Bush is asking Congress for an additional $15 billion to continue and expand the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, a program approved by Congress after he announced it in his 2003 State of the Union address. On Friday, he announced plans to visit sub-Saharan Africa early next year to see the program at work. He renewed his call for lawmakers to continue funding it.

"Now the time has come for the United States Congress to act again," he said. "I'm confident they will." The White House says the program -- which targets countries hardest-hit by the disease -- has treated more than 1.3 million people with AIDS. Increased funding would boost that number to 2.5 million, while expanding AIDS prevention programs and offering care to millions more with AIDS.

Despite some successes, the program has been criticized for requiring that participating groups emphasize abstinence education. At the White House, about 40 people carried signs in support of more AIDS funding.

Before speaking, the president, along with First lady Laura Bush, participated in an hour-long faith-based roundtable discussion at the church. Among others, the president met with Martha Chilufya, founder of the Mututa Memorial Center in Zambia. The center works with faith-based and other caregivers to serve more than 150 patients.

Laura Bush and daughter Jenna visited the center in June. Bush said the first lady will join him on his trip next year.

A giant red ribbon -- the international symbol for AIDS awareness -- was hung from the north portico of the White House Friday morning "to represent the continued battle against HIV/AIDS and to affirm the matchless value of every life," the White House said.

Sydney, Australia: Missing Matthew Leveson

A DISTRAUGHT Sydney, Australia family today made a heartfelt plea for any information about the bizarre and baffling disappearance of their happy-go-lucky son.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the disappearance of 20-year-old Matthew Leveson who lived in the Cronulla area, in Sydney's south. Police suspect foul play but his family still hopes Matthew will return home. Matthew's family last saw him at a 21st party in Wollongong, south of Sydney, on September 7, but his brother Peter saw him two weeks later at a popular gay nightspot. Matthew was with a large group of friends before leaving the ARQ nightclub in Sydney's Surry Hills in the early hours of Sunday, September 23.

Police said Matthew's partner last saw him later that day in Cronulla. Friends and colleagues became concerned when he did not turn up to work at a Hurstville call centre on September 25. Police found Matthew's green Toyota Seca at Waratah Oval, Sutherland, on September 27, just a short distance from his home.

"It's baffling ... it's a complete mystery," his father Mark Leveson told reporters today. "He's a happy-go-lucky guy who liked going out to party and had a good circle of friends." His mother, Faye Leveson, was distraught today as she appealed for information from the public. "I want my son back," she said. "He's a beautiful boy, he wouldn't harm a fly, he's got lovely friends. "I just want to know something. Please come to the police."

Peter Leveson said there were no suspicious incidents when he and a friend last saw Matthew at the ARQ nightclub. "He was happy, dancing around the place ... it's bizarre, completely out of character," he said. "Please come home, we really miss you, it's tearing us apart," he said.

Miranda police have not found any evidence to suggest Matthew is still alive and have not ruled out the possibility his disappearance may be linked to a gay hate crime. Detective Inspector Adam Barwick said the investigation was being treated as homicide.

"We certainly hold grave concerns for Matthew," he said. "We believe his disappearance is a result of foul play." The circumstances of his disappearance were highly unusual, Insp Barwick said. "We don't believe he chose to go missing," the inspector added. "It's possible people are talking amongst themselves as to what happened or what they believed has happened and that's why we would like them to come forward to police," he said.

The two men from Virginia Beach facing charges in connection to the stabbing death of Bryan Kocis described the murder while visiting Sean Lockhart (aka Brent Corrigan) and Grant Roy at a nude beach in California three weeks ago, according to arrest papers. Harlow Cuadra (owner and face of Boy Batter), 25, and Joseph Manuel Kerekes, 33, visited Lockhart (see article on Cuadra and Lockhart's connection) and Grant Roy at Black's Beach in San Diego on April 28, where Cuadra told Lockhart about the murder.

Lockhart (Brent Corrigan) was a model for Kocis who owned Cobra Video, a company that produced and sold gay pornographic movies. Kocis was found dead inside his Dallas Township home on Jan. 24. Investigators said Kocis was stabbed 28 times to the front of his body, and that his throat was slashed before his home was set on fire.

According to the criminal complaints:

Cuadra and Kerekes traveled to San Diego at the end of April and met Lockhart and Roy. At the nude beach, Cuadra told Lockhart that "(Cuadra) was present when (Kocis) was murdered." A day earlier on April 27, Cuadra told Lockhart, "don't worry, he went quick," the criminal complaints say. Investigators used an electronic intercept to record the conversations, according to the criminal complaints. State police at Wyoming linked Cuadra to Kocis through several e-mail accounts that were set up prior to Kocis' murder. Investigators said that Cuadra leased a vehicle in Virginia Beach that he drove to Luzerne County on Jan. 23. While in the area, Cuadra and Kerekes stayed at the Fox Ridge Inn in Plains Township leaving on Jan. 24.

Investigators also claimed that Cuadra and Kerekes were regulars at a gym in Virginia Beach and didn't swipe their entrance cards on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, the criminal complaints says. Cuadra and Kerekes are each charged with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, liability for the conduct of another, robbery, burglary, theft, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of corpse, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, and two counts of arson.

The two men are being held in Virginia Beach are may appear before a Virginia judge at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators said the house was set on fire after he was killed. Kocis' company, Cobra Video, produces and sells gay porn. Police say they pulled over the two suspects in the 3900 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard around 10:10 Tuesday morning. They were arrested without incident. Officers are working with Pennsylvania State Police on this investigation. Stay tuned to Your NewsChannel 3 for the latest on this breaking news story.

Today I am going to take a break from my normal Friday Gay Porn Review to provide you with something even better. I had the recent pleasure of interviewing Dr. Dick, aka Dr. Richard Wagner of Daddy Oohhh Productions. Goldie: Tell me about your background. What were you doing before porn?
Dr. Dick: I came to this work in a most unorthodox fashion. It is certainly not something I ever aspired to do. I was a Catholic priest for 20 years. (I am the only Catholic priest in the world with a doctorate in Clinical Sexology.) I completed my post-graduate work with the publication of my doctoral thesis concerning the sexual attitudes and behaviors of gay Catholic priests in the active ministry in 1981. This was unprecedented research back then (and even now, for that matter). There was a firestorm of international publicity. I was son to be known as "The Gay Priest". Like if I was the only one. Needless to say, this notoriety (some say infamy) effectively ended my priesthood. I fought the Vatican for the next 15 years, from 1981-1996, in an attempt to salvage my ministry, but the deed was done.
My career as a therapist in San Francisco coincided with the advent of HIV/AIDS (1981). Not surprisingly, my practice evolved into working primarily with sick and dying people. In the mid-90's I founded a nonprofit organization, PARADIGM, Enhancing Life Near Death. It was an outreach for terminally ill, chronically ill, elder and dying people. This was brilliant cutting-edge work. Alas, I couldn't find the funding to continue. This precipitated a rather sudden move to Seattle in 1999.
G: How did you make the transition into the adult market? What attracted you to this job?
DD: I continued to work with sick and dying people here, in Seattle. I started to develop programming for women newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer and men with prostate cancer. I wanted to create videos for people experiencing life threatening and/or disfiguring illnesses to help them deal with reintegrating sex and intimacy post diagnosis. I soon realized that I would need to fund this project on my own. No mainline foundation would touch the issue of sex. Faced with how I might do that, friends prevailed on me to start by making porn. Thus Daddy Oohhh! Productions was born.
What attracted me? The lure of loads of money to fund my great passion attracted me. Unfortunately, the load of money has yet to materialize. Now that I'm actually doing porn, my interest is to create projects that are different in style and tone from what currently rules the marketplace.
G: What is your role within Daddy Oohhh! Productions?
DD: President/CEO: that and a dollar gets me a ride on the bus. ;-)
G: What has been your most memorable experience working in the porn industry?
DD: I've met and worked with some marvelously creative people, both in front of and behind the camera. These extraordinary people have helped me make my mark. Without them, there would be no Daddy Oohhh.
G: What makes the content from Daddy Oohhh! Productions unique?
